Montrachet is a wine region in Burgundy that produces some of the finest and most expensive white wines in the world.

The microclimate, the quality of the soil and the location of this vineyard, combined with the Chardonnay grape variety and its classic cultivation method, have made these great wines famous for centuries. These are monumental, complex, dense wines, characterised by high alcohol and moderate acidity.

The Montrachet Sommeliers glass is large, bulbous, with a wide opening. The beverage is especially directed to the edge of the tongue, which is sensitive to sour flavours, thus accentuating the acidity of the wine, which gains in nobility and expression.

Claus Riedel introduced the first series of glasses for connoisseurs in 1973 in Orvieto in collaboration with the Italian Sommeliers Association A.I.S. (Associazione Italiana Sommeliers). The series includes 10 different sizes.

Each glass is made separately: the top is blown in a mould, the stem and base are shaped by hand according to production methods developed in the early 1900s.
