The Burgundy Grand Cru Black and White Twisted glass is a new 2017 release from the Fatto a Mano collection, which literally means "handmade" in Italian. In this collection, the Austrian company Riedel is inspired by traditional Italian glassmaking techniques, which it implements with care and precision in its glassworks.

On the one hand, this glass clearly shows the imprint of tradition, on the other hand, it retains the features so typical of the Riedel brand: the specific body shape according to the individual wine varieties, the very fine, thinly blown walls, the purity of the shapes without excessive decoration and the elegant slender stem.

The shape of the body of the glass, based on the traditional Sommeliers collection, was designed in 1957.

The English wine magazine Decanter Magazine describes the Burgundy Grand Cru glass on the occasion of a comparative tasting as "The finest Burgunder glass of all times, suitable for both young and old burgundies" . Another unusual appreciation of this unique shape is the fact that the Museum of Modern Art (New York) has this glass on permanent display. However, the evil tongues also call this beautiful creation the "goldfishbowl", because the drinking vessel with a volume of more than 1000 ml is simply unique.

Light wines do not feel good in a glass of Burgundy Grand Cru Sommeliers, their lack of expression is completely lost in it. On the contrary, full-bodied wines - first-class Burgundy, Barolo or Barbaresco - literally blossom in it and present even the finest aromas in unsuspected fullness and intensity. Thin-skinned red varieties produce less intense wines with acidity that can spoil the drinking experience.

The shape of the Burgundy Grand Cru glass, on the other hand, integrates the acidity into the fruity taste. The wine from this gently open shape flows directly onto the tongue and enhances the fruit and sweet flavours. As a result, an exciting play of fruit and acidity unfolds in the mouth, harmoniously complementing the flavour impression of this wine, creating a complex, three-dimensional 'taste picture'.

Do not pour more than 150 ml of wine into a 1050 ml glass.

Fatto a Mano - literally translated from Italian as "made by hand". The production of this new series is based on the traditional methods of the Italian glassmakers from the Venice area and thus retains the charm of a glass manufactory with a rich tradition.

Georg Riedel, representative of the brand's 10th generation, set out to achieve a colourful celebration of wine serving in all its glory with the Fatto a Mano collection. The unique stems are not only pleasing to the eye, but when you touch them, you can directly feel the human aspect put into them during the handmade process.
